Background: - Terry Johnson's 39' x 33' O Scale layout is located in Cherry Hills Village, Colorado.
The O Scale layout shown here is Terry's favorite scale "because the scenery can be made to look like the real thing." Terry relates "that most all of these locomotives are made of brass and detailed so beautifully accurate, and with such precision, that it is just a pleasure to watch them operate." With most engines produced in Asia, and with all measurements perfectly to scale, they run very quietly except for some clicking at rail joints produced by one of his long line of freight cars. From the mountain scenery and the western style terminals, one would be lead to believe that the only road names operating were the Union Pacific from the west. However, he also has many eastern railroads represented.
There are three DC power sources using separate Cabs. One Cab is run by remote walk-around, which Terry feels is great when troubles occur. This allows him to walk to the problem, and then power the engine as he corrects the problem. The second Cab has two sources, one is Pacific Fast Mail which provides a myriad of sound features. The third power source is a 6200 transformer. A visit to Terry's layout is both inspirational and educational.
